CLOAKWORK 2018 TOUR : AUSTRALIA

Australia Graffiti Tour Poster

Travel period : 27/3/2018 ~ 18/4/2018

Temperature : 22°C ~ 30°C

Australia — The motherland of Kangaroo kingdom! I have been to Australia once in 2014, to both, Sydney and Melbourne for vacation.

I was contacted by Gus one evening and he sent an e-invitation to paint at BSAF 2018 in Brisbane. I was very, very excited about it and immediately, I googled the country's culture and background for inspiration for the graffiti that I'll paint over there. I was bombarded with pictures of surfboards, tasmanian devils, koalas and not forgetting about the main character - kangaroo. I knew there was more than that!

As soon as the size of the wall was confirmed, I started finalising my ideas into sketches, and next was to pick the colours for background and the graffiti.

Kenji, Tuyuloveme and I gathered at Singapore's Changi Airport and we took the same 7-hour flight to Gold Coast to meet Gus and he will pick us up and head to Brisbane.

Upon arrival in Brisbane, I can pick on up the chill and relaxed vibe of the city. We had a short rest then headed to local grocery store to pick up food and necessities. After playing few rounds of Mario Kart, we went to meet the people behind BSAF. The people were very passionate about art. The night ended well.

The first day was kind of chill. I had fun painting the walls while Kenji and Tuyuloveme painted their walls under the hot sun.

For the next 4 days, we were very focused on our graffiti and were also working on some canvas for the group exhibitions at both Brisbane Powerhouse and Urban Paradise Gallery. I can guarantee that I have had the best gin & tonic here made by Noni ( Gus's girlfriend ), watched Netflix the most, and spent hours of gaming here with Brenda, and the friendly neighbourhood fellows; James, Candy, Robbie, +++. It was really fun to have such positive friends around us. Once a while, we drop by Fortitude Valley and bar hop and party!

Of course, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Since Gold Coast is not too far from Brisbane, we spent our final day at Dream World theme park. It's a fusion of both wet and dry rides, it's really worth it and we spent some really quality time there as well as in Surfer's Paradise. The END.

"The Train Hijack"

This is the story of two Koala brothers who happen to be train enthusiasts, who always sneak into train stations during the night and leave graffiti on it. But, for the Koalas, when there is a will there is a way and the story continues... Until next time!
